How to Install Skin Packs on iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS) (Minecraft Bedrock)
This guide walks through installing Minecraft skin packs on iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS. You'll learn how to get packs from the in-game Marketplace and how to install custom .mcpack files you've downloaded from a website.
Quick answer: open the .mcpack file from the Files app, tap Share, choose Minecraft, and the game imports it for you. Then head to the Dressing Room, find your pack under Classic Skins, and tap Equip. That's the whole process.
Quick answer
- Get a skin pack file (
.mcpack) onto your iPhone or iPad, or buy one from the in-game Marketplace. - Open the
.mcpackfrom the Files app, tap Share, and choose Minecraft. - Minecraft opens and imports the pack automatically. You'll see a confirmation message.
- Go to the Dressing Room → Classic Skins → select your skin → tap Equip.
- Marketplace packs work the same way: buy with Minecoins, then equip from the Dressing Room.
Get skin packs from the Marketplace on iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS)
The in-game Marketplace is the easiest way to get skin packs on iOS. Most packs cost Minecoins, though some are free. You'll need a Microsoft account to make purchases; once bought, the pack follows your account across devices.
- Open Minecraft on your iPhone or iPad.
- On the main menu, tap the Marketplace button.
- Browse the Skins tab (or Featured / New Releases) to find a pack you like.
- Tap the pack. If it costs Minecoins, tap Buy or Unlock. The pack downloads to your device.
- Tap the Dressing Room button on the main menu.
- Tap Classic Skins (or Owned Skins) to see your new pack.
- Select the skin you want, then tap Equip.
Marketplace purchases are tied to your Microsoft account. If you sign in on another device, the pack is already there. No re-download needed.

Install a custom skin pack (.mcpack)
Custom skin packs come as a single .mcpack file. On iPhone and iPad the usual way to install one is to open the file and let Minecraft import it. Here's how:
- Get the
.mcpackfile onto your device. You can download it from a website (it lands in the Files app under Downloads), AirDrop it from a Mac, or transfer it however you like.
- Open the Files app and navigate to the
.mcpackfile (usually in Downloads or On My iPhone). - Tap the file once to select it, then tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- In the Share sheet, scroll the app list and tap Minecraft.
- Minecraft launches and imports the pack. You should see a message confirming the import was successful.
- Tap the Dressing Room button on the main menu.
- Tap Classic Skins. Your new pack should be listed there.
- Select the skin you want, then tap Equip.
This "open the file, choose Minecraft" flow is the method described in community tutorials for iOS. Microsoft's official guide describes the same pattern for Windows; the iOS steps follow the same logic. If you don't see Minecraft in the Share sheet, make sure the game is installed and updated.
Use a single custom skin (no pack needed)
You don't have to use a full skin pack. If you have a single skin PNG (64×64 or 128×128), you can import it directly:
- Save the PNG to your Photos app or the Files app.
- In Minecraft, open the Dressing Room.
- Tap Classic Skins, then tap Choose New Skin.
- Pick the PNG from Photos or Files.
- Choose the correct model type: Classic (4-pixel arms, Steve-style) or Slim (3-pixel arms, Alex-style).
- The skin appears under Owned Skins. Tap it and then Equip.
Pick the model type that matches your skin image. A Classic skin set to Slim (or vice versa) will show a visible gap or cut-off on the arms.
Skin pack not showing? Fixes
If your skin pack isn't appearing or something looks wrong, work through this list:
- Turn off "Only Allow Trusted Skins." Go to Settings → General tab and make sure Only Allow Trusted Skins is toggled off. This is the most common reason a custom pack is hidden.
- Check the file structure. If you made the pack yourself, the
manifest.jsonmust be at the root of the zip (not inside a subfolder). Re-zip the files directly and rename to.mcpack. - Use unique UUIDs. The header and module in
manifest.jsonneed two different UUIDs. Reusing a UUID from another pack will cause a conflict. - Match the model type. If the skin looks wrong (arms cut off, gaps), re-import and choose the correct Classic or Slim option.
- Check the PNG size. Valid sizes are 64×32, 64×64, or 128×128 pixels. If the game says "That's not a Minecraft skin, silly," the image isn't a valid skin file.
- Free up storage. If you see "Something went wrong. This may be due to insufficient storage space," delete unused apps or photos and retry the import.
- Server-side restriction. If the skin works in singleplayer but not on a server, the server may have custom skins disabled. You'll see a message: "This server has custom skins disabled."
FAQ
Do skin packs carry over to other devices?
Marketplace purchases follow your Microsoft account, so they're available on any device you sign in to. Custom .mcpack files you import are stored on that specific device and do not sync automatically. You'll need to import them on each device separately.
Are skin packs free?
Some Marketplace content is free, but most skin packs cost Minecoins. Custom packs downloaded from websites (like the ones on this site) are free. You can also make your own at no cost.
Can I make my own skin pack?
Yes! You can use the Skin Pack Creator tool right in your browser, or follow the step-by-step guide at How to make a skin pack. All you need is a skin PNG, a text editor, and a free UUID generator.
What's the difference between Classic and Slim?
Classic skins have 4-pixel-wide arms (the Steve model). Slim skins have 3-pixel-wide arms (the Alex model). When importing a single skin, the game asks you to choose. Pick the one that matches your image to avoid visual glitches on the arms.
Do I need a Microsoft account?
For Marketplace purchases, yes, you need a Microsoft account to buy Minecoins and unlock paid packs. For custom .mcpack files you download and import yourself, no account is required.
Can I use skin packs on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch?
Custom skin pack import is not available on consoles. On Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch you'll need to use Marketplace skin packs or the Character Creator instead.
