How to Install Skin Packs on Amazon Fire Tablet (Minecraft Bedrock)
Looking for how to install Minecraft skin packs on an Amazon Fire Tablet? This guide walks you through both options: grabbing a pack from the in-game Marketplace, or importing a custom .mcpack file you downloaded from a site like this one.
Amazon Fire OS is Android-based, and Minecraft Bedrock is available from the Amazon Appstore. That means the install steps should work the same way as on any other Android device. One caveat: Mojang has not published official Fire Tablet instructions, so treat these as "should work like Android" rather than a guaranteed, documented process.
Quick answer
- Marketplace packs: open Minecraft → Marketplace → find a skin pack → buy or unlock with Minecoins → equip it in the Dressing Room.
- Custom packs (.mcpack): download the file, open it with Minecraft, and the pack imports automatically into
skin_packs. - Single custom skins: Dressing Room → Classic Skins → Choose New Skin → pick a PNG → select Classic or Slim model.
- Consoles can't do this. Fire Tablet is a mobile-class device, so both methods are available (unlike Xbox, PlayStation or Switch).
- If a pack doesn't appear, check that Only Allow Trusted Skins is turned off in Settings → General.
Get skin packs from the Marketplace on Amazon Fire Tablet
The easiest way to get a new skin is through the in-game Marketplace. Purchases are tied to your Microsoft account, so any pack you buy on your Fire Tablet will also be available on your phone, PC or console (where the Marketplace is supported).
- Open Minecraft on your Fire Tablet.
- Tap the Marketplace button on the main menu.
- Browse the Skins section (or use Featured / New Releases tabs).
- Tap a skin pack to preview it. If it costs Minecoins, you'll be prompted to purchase. Free packs just need a tap to unlock.
- Once purchased or unlocked, tap the Dressing Room button on the main menu.
- Go to Classic Skins (or Owned Skins). You should see the new pack listed.
- Select the skin you want and tap Equip.
You need a Microsoft account to buy Minecoins. If you already purchased a pack on another device, it should appear here automatically once you're signed in.

Install a custom skin pack (.mcpack)
Custom skin packs come as a single .mcpack file. Because Fire OS is Android-based, the import process should work the same way as on any Android phone or tablet: open the file with Minecraft and it handles the rest.
This method is not officially documented by Mojang for Fire Tablets specifically. It should work like Android, but if you run into issues, the Android guide covers the closest officially supported steps.
- Download the
.mcpackfile to your Fire Tablet (e.g. from a browser or a file-sharing app). It will usually land in your Downloads folder. - Open the Files app (or whichever file manager you use) and navigate to the downloaded file.
- Tap the
.mcpackfile. Fire OS will ask which app to open it with. Choose Minecraft.
- Minecraft launches and imports the pack. You should see a message confirming the import was successful.
- Go to the Dressing Room → Classic Skins. Your new pack should be listed (on some versions it appears under the Featured Skins button with the clothes-hanger icon).
- Pick a skin from the pack and tap Equip.
The pack is stored in the skin_packs folder inside com.mojang. You don't need to copy files by hand. If the import fails, make sure the .mcpack file has manifest.json at its root (not inside a sub-folder).
Use a single custom skin
Don't need a whole pack? You can import a single PNG skin directly through the game. This works on Fire Tablet the same way it does on other Android devices.
- Save the skin PNG to your Fire Tablet (Downloads folder or Photos).
- Open Minecraft and tap the Dressing Room button.
- Go to Classic Skins.
- Tap Choose New Skin.
- Pick the PNG file from your device storage.
- When asked to choose a model type, select Classic (4-pixel arms, Steve-style) or Slim (3-pixel arms, Alex-style). Picking the wrong one can make the arms look cut off or leave a gap.
- Tap Equip to apply it.
Your imported single skin will appear under Owned Skins in the Dressing Room.
Skin pack not showing? Fixes
If your skin pack or custom skin isn't appearing on your Fire Tablet, work through these fixes in order:
- Turn off "Only Allow Trusted Skins." Go to Settings → General tab and make sure Only Allow Trusted Skins is toggled off. This is the most common reason a custom pack is invisible.
- Check the .mcpack structure. The file must have
manifest.jsonat the zip root, not inside a wrapper folder. If you made the pack yourself, re-zip the contents (not the folder) and rename to.mcpack. - Verify the UUIDs. The header and module in
manifest.jsonmust each have their own unique UUID. Reusing a UUID from another pack will cause a conflict. - Match your geometry setting. In
skins.json, use exactlygeometry.humanoid.custom(Classic) orgeometry.humanoid.customSlim(Slim). A typo here means the skin won't render correctly. - Check the texture file name. The
texturevalue inskins.jsonmust match the PNG file name exactly, including capitalisation and extension. The PNG must sit in the pack root, not in a sub-folder. - Validate your JSON. A missing comma, trailing comma or wrong quote in
manifest.jsonorskins.jsonwill silently break the pack. Paste the contents into any free JSON validator to check. - Free up storage. If the import fails with a storage error, delete unused apps or files and try again.
- Update Minecraft. Older versions had a bug where the Equip button was missing. Make sure you're on the latest version from the Amazon Appstore.

FAQ
Do skin packs carry over to my other devices?
Marketplace purchases follow your Microsoft account, so a pack you buy on your Fire Tablet will be available on your phone, PC or console. Custom .mcpack files and single imported skins, however, are stored on the device you imported them to. You'll need to import them separately on each device.
Are skin packs free?
Some Marketplace skin packs are free, but most cost Minecoins. Custom packs from sites like this one are typically free to download. You can also make your own at no cost.
Can I make my own skin pack?
Yes. You'll need a skin PNG (64×64 or 128×128), a manifest.json, a skins.json and a short en_US.lang file. Check out the how-to-make guide for step-by-step instructions, or use the Skin Pack Creator tool to build and download a pack right in your browser.
Why can't I import custom skins on Xbox or PlayStation?
Custom skin import (both .mcpack files and single PNGs) is only supported on Windows and mobile devices, which includes Fire Tablets. Consoles like Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch don't support it. On those platforms, your options are Marketplace packs and the Character Creator.
What's the difference between a Classic Skin and Character Creator?
A Classic Skin is a full-body texture you apply as one piece. Character Creator lets you build a character item by item (hair, eyes, clothing, etc.). Both live in the Dressing Room, and you can switch between them at any time. Skin packs only produce Classic Skins.
Do I need a special app to open .mcpack files?
No. Minecraft itself handles the import. Just tap the file in your Files app and choose Minecraft as the app to open it with. No extra software needed.
