BLOCKS vs ENTITES | Experimental Gameplay Features | MCPE 1.16.201 | Minecraft Bedrock Edition
Put the MINI BLOCKS and MOB HEADS on your head!
The next versions of MINI BLOCKS and MOB HEADS add-ons for Minecraft Bedrock Edition are in the works.
Using the Experimental Gameplay features we can use custom items, custom blocks and custom entities to improve these packs and make them work how we want them to.
The problem is that I'm not sure which direction to go in.
Both new versions use the new Custom Item features currently available in Experimental Mode, which allow you to make custom armor and put the blocks on your head and on armor stands.
But the decision I need to make is what comes after. Do we change the pack to make use of custom blocks, limiting the features we have at our disposal but improving overall game performance by reducing lag.
Or do we continue to use entities, giving us a incredibly flexible feature set allowing us to completely control how our mini blocks look and behave.
Remember, either option (blocks and entities) will allow us to wear them on our heads and put them on armor stands in the future.
Here are some Pros & Cons to help you decide...
Blocks
======
Pros:
- Lagless
- Can Emit Light
- Can Stand On (Has collision box)
- Can Break Properly (With tools)
- More Like Vanilla Tweaks (JAVA Edition Mod)
- They don't sink in Water or Lava
- They don't float of to space when launched
- Less code is required per block type making the pack smaller and less complicated
Cons:
- Can't be manipulated like entities
- Won't be compatible with existing worlds using the current version of the pack.
Entities
=======
Pros:
- Can be manipulated in hundreds of ways allowing us to rotate, scale and position them however we want.
- Unlimited positioning
- Compatible with previous versions of the pack
Cons:
- Laggy when there are hundreds in the world
- Sink in Water / Lava
- Float up when launched
- More code per entity meaning a larger pack with more complex code.
